Deliver a 3-minute pitch to receive up to $500 in research funds!Connected Academics invites ASU’s PhD students in the humanities and the arts to share their research project in a 3-minute pitch that includes how they will spend the award. Describe your research for a panel of judges, and the best pitches will walk out with up to $500 in funds to support the project!Three $500 First Place Awards are available!Three $250 Second Place Awards are available!Also be sure to attend the Build Your Pitch workshop on Thursday the 18th to prepare for the competition. Pitch competiton guidelines1) Participant must be an ASU graduate student in a doctoral program of study or an MFA at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.2) Pitch must be about original research being conducted/to be conducted by the participant.3) Participant must state within the pitch how funding will be used if awarded.4) Pitch must be delivered in no more than 3 minutes.5) No props (e.g. images, slides, posters, video, or media-sound) are allowed with the delivery of the pitch.Important!Awardees of the pitch competition will receive Connected Academics research funds. If you win you may spend your award on material that enriches your education, supports your professional development, or advances your research agenda. Due to Arizona State University regulations, all awards must be spent within one month of the pitch competition (by May 24).Here are some specific examples of how your award can be spent:Books. Lots of books!Membership fees to professional organizations.Software that can be used as part of your research (qualitative data analysis software such as Atlas.ti, mind-mapping software such as XMind, etc).Subscription services (access to databases).Primary research material (document hard copies, pictures, books, access fees to archives, etc.).Tools that pertain to your research (audio recorders, microphones, transcription pedals, document scanners).Other supplies that pertain to your research.If you have questions about how you might spend an award, please contact Sean Moxley-Kelly at [email protected] I need to know how I will spend the award?This is a pitch for awards funds, and you should explain how the funds will contribute to your project. In other words, you might describe a research study involving participant interviews, and say that you will use the funds to purchase books. Clearly, an interview project requires more than books to complete. Still, as long as it's clear that these books will support this worthwhile project, that meets the pitch guidelines.
