Post-doctoral Research Associate (Job 12372)

The School of Historical, Philosophical & Religious Studies (SHPRS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate fellowship in social thought, political history, and/or political institutions to begin in Fall 2018. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching focuses on ancient and/or early modern Europe and/or American political ideas. This is a full time (1.0) benefits-eligible, fiscal year (July 1-June 30) appointment. Renewal is possible on an annual basis contingent on satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and needs of the program.

The successful candidate will be affiliated with the SHPRS undergraduate program in Political History and Leadership and will teach history courses in support of program. The position carries a 2-2 teaching load. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute a minimum of 10 hours per week in the activities of the program during the academic year and to actively participate in the school’s high school leadership program during the summer.

Required qualification: candidates must have a Ph.D. in history, philosophy, political science, or a field relevant to social and political thought, by the time of the appointment.

Desired qualifications: evidence of achievement and promise in research and writing in intellectual history and social thought; a demonstrated ability to teach introductory and upper- level undergraduate courses relevant to political history via various modes of delivery (ex. classroom, hybrid and online).
