ASU Philosophy is committed to maintaining excellence in the major fields of philosophy as well as to participating in innovative programs that connect philosophy to other areas of inquiry and that emphasize the social relevance of philosophy.
Philosophy offers two graduate degrees, a PhD and an MA The newly redesigned PhD in Philosophy features a focus on Practical and Applied Philosophy and an interdisciplinary coursework component related to the student's thesis topic.
In addition to an undergraduate major and minor, Philosophy offers a certificate in Ethics and participates in an interdisciplinary certificate in Symbolic, Cognitive and Linguistic Systems that explores these systems through philosophy, psychology, computer science, mathematics, English, and anthropology.
Philosophy enjoys close ties with the School of Life Sciences' program in history and philosophy of science, the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics, and the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.
